We welcome Sonia Israel to the #Alembikawomen family, here are her answers to our 5 questions…

What do you do when you don’t know what to do?

It seems like I never know “what not to do.” But if I have any free time, I go back to editing the many photographs I have shot on my travels, and try to catch up on writing my travel blog. I also love to sit in the sun, watch the birds and butterflies in my backyard, and think.

What would you do if you had the whole day for yourself?

Get up slowly, have coffee, go for a walk, work on my travel blog Journeys With Sonia, read a book, watch a movie. This so rarely happens, but I also love just curling up on my couch and reading – and of course back to editing pictures and writing my blog.

What is the best thing about being a woman?

Being a mother

Being a grandmother

My women friends

Being strong and gentle all at the same time (not that men can’t be that too).

Knowing how to be a leader and doing it with empathy, inner strength and kindness.

What is the one piece of clothing you cannot live without?

My Alembika punto pants!

What did you do or do for work?

I am now Emeritus and mostly retired, but I was a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine where I specialized in Sleep Medicine with a sub-specialty in sleep and circadian rhythms in aging and in cancer. My goal has always been to improve people’s quality of life.
