Maddy Novich is a cargo biking NYC mom of 3 with a PhD who writes about biking, travel, style, beauty, and what to do in New York City. You can follow her on Instagram @cargobikemomma.

What do or do for work?

I’m an Associate Professor of  Criminal Justice and director of the Criminology major at my institution.

How would you describe your style as a teenager?

I was very edgy as a teenager. I was probably closest to goth, with lots of zippers, short, spiky hair of varying rainbow hues, huge platforms, and lots of vinyl.

How would you describe your style now?

Depends on the day but mostly I strive for classic and elegant with a unique twist. But I’m also a cargo-biking mom of 3, so I often need to be in jeans or joggers in order to keep pace with my kids and lifestyle.

Maddy is wearing Sadie Boxy Top in black & white (also available in cream) and Olivia Lounge Pants in black & white (also available in cream and stripe).

What would you do if you had the whole day for yourself?

I would definitely prioritize rest, health, and rejuvenation. I would exercise, go for a massage, eat high protein meals, read a book over a steaming oat milk latte, and go to bed early.

Who gave you the most valuable piece of advice and what was it?

I’ve been given so much amazing advice throughout my life but I think one that really stands out is from my mother. She told me, “to process hard emotions, you have to go through them” – meaning that the only way to process the hard moments is to fully experience them, acknowledge them, and embrace them. Once you have faced them fully, you can begin to move past them.

What 3 words would you use to describe how you feel in Alembika?

Bold, chic, and confident.

Maddy is wearing our best-selling Urban Broadway Cocoon Dress.
