Alembika has had a long friendship and business relationship with Jackie of MHP Retailers for two decades. First with her store Corby I and now with her two stores Corby II in Washington, D.C. and Sequel in Bethesda, MD (which is having a trunk show August 7-9, 2025).

We asked her questions so everyone can get to know Jackie!

Did you always want to be a retailer?

My father purchased the only clothing store, named “Hadlee” in our small community so that women would still have a place to shop locally. He moved it to a new location and named it “the house across the street” because it was located across the street from our family furniture stores. I’ve been in the marketplace since I was 10 and in 2015 named a namesake location in Washington, DC with the original name “Hadlee”.

What would you do in your next life?

In my next life I would be secretary of housing and urban development, developing solar powered tiny house communities for moderate and lower income residents across the nation.

What are your Top 5 “must carry with you” travel items?

1.       My iconic jeans

2.      Silk scarf for a splash of color

3.      Leather tote bag

4.      A stylish white sneaker that goes with everything

5.      My favorite red lipstick, that just happens to have been the same color my mom wore.

Your favorite season and what your go-to wardrobe would be?

Spring! My iconic jeans of the season paired with a great black or white top. Plus I love my jackets, so a foldable raincoat for that unavoidable downpour, a cute bomber and blazer.

What is your favorite style or item in Alembika and what makes you love the brand?

My favorite item from Alembika are my iconic jeans. They are stylish, versatile and comfortable and are easy to take from desk to dinner. I love the brand because it’s feminine with an edge but also you can find great basics with a flair to really build a good wardrobe.
