We welcome Beth Marx to the #Alembikawomen family, here are her answers to our 5 questions…

What do you do (or did you do) for work?

In September 2015, I retired from a 35 year career in Finance with Boeing.  I worked in the Space Division in Seal Beach which is just 4 miles from my house.  Since I had a clearance and was not allowed to bring work home, I spent my evenings creating in various mediums. In 2006 I discovered wet felting. In 2015 I had a studio built behind my house and now I spend a great deal of my free time in my studio creating wet felted garments and accessories.  Wet felting (aka Nuno felting) is the technique of combining wool and silk fabric without any sewing.  The piece is strictly held together by the affinity of the wool fibers as they migrate through the fabric and entangle creating incredible textures.

What do you do when you don’t know what to do?

I spend a lot of time in my studio creating.

What would you do if you had the whole day for yourself?

I live alone with my two dogs so having the whole day to myself is business as usual.  I start my day with Wordle and then I make coffee and check my email, etc.  And in no particular order, I play a few games of on-line mah-jongg when I am not playing with my groups, do yoga or some sort of exercise, walk my dogs, bike ride, meet up with friends, spend time in my studio creating and in the evening I read and/or watch TV.  On the other hand, I love exploring a city and finding hidden gems including cool shops, amazing architecture and restaurants.

What do you love most about being a woman?

I love being strong, fit, artsy, smart, modern, creative, fashionable, stylish and being in charge of me.  And I can fix most things that break in my house (from electronics to machines) which makes me feel so empowered.

What is the one piece of clothing you cannot live without?

Leggings with pockets.
