The Alembika team is so fortunate to have a community of women who are not only inspirational in their own unique ways, but many #AlembikaWomen are artists! We seem to attract creative types… And we love that! Meet Elisa, who shares her thoughts with us here.
What do you do for work?
I started out as an art teacher until I found out that many kids don’t think making art is fun. Then I worked at a school for disabled children for 22 years as the Community Liaison & Special Events Coordinator . After that, I became a full time artist. My website is ElisaRoot.com, my paintings are at Artful Home where they did a “focus” on my work, with photos of me in my studio and lots of paintings to see. I sell my pots locally because they are often too big to ship!
What is the best thing about being a woman?
Not being a man.
What would you do if you had the whole day to yourself?
First, I would linger much longer at the kitchen table, having coffee and doing the Times crossword. Then, I just might stare out the window and enjoy the peace.

What do you do when you don’t know what to do?
If I am anxious or nervous or not knowing what side is up, I go for a walk. If I am stuck on how to finish a pot, or what direction to take a painting, I step back and stare… for a long while. I may look at some books of my favorite artists to get inspired. Or I may eat some candy.
What is the one piece of clothing you can’t live without?
Any one of the many stained or clean black turtleneck sweaters. (I am an artist!)
