My friend Maggie is a professional “namer.” She names businesses for a living and I love talking with her about words. She told me her parents always used to say, “I am worried about you.” She said it always bothered her; that it made her feel like something was wrong with her.
Last weekend, I wasn’t feeling well and when my friend said to me, “I’m worried about you” I understood what Maggie meant… If you are worried about me, something must be wrong with me! Naturally, that is where the mind tends to go.
Now, I will try to never direct the word “worry” to my kids! Promise!
Are you worried about your kids? Spouse? Parents? How are you wording it to them? How do you worry without causing them more concern than they already have?
Happy Tuesday,
Yael
