Trunk Show Alert! Thu 9/19 – Sat 9/21
We spoke to Kathy, owner of Possibilities Boutique about her career, her favorite Alembika pieces and more!
Did you always want to be a retailer?
I realized it was going to be a part of my life at 18 when I had a part time job at Peck and Peck. I somehow would make what appeared to be clothing from a conservative store into fun outfits for women wanting to express themselves through their clothing. I soon became confident when my customers were happy and my sales grew. I realized how fun it was when 9pm came and I felt like I had just gotten there. So, yes, retail has always been a part of my life from that first job, to management, to opening my first store at age 25 in Carrboro, NC. Possibilities Boutique will soon celebrate 37 years, and I still have that same love and passion.
What would you do in your next life?
In my next life I might be a back-up singer for The Chicks or Paul McCartney. I also might be a real hippie with 10 kids reading Mother Earth News and growing my own food. I also might be an artist living on the beach. Or maybe I’ll be all 3.
What are your Top 5 “must pack” travel items?
My pillow & eye mask, Bose speaker, journal, iPad and vegan snacks
What is your favorite season and your go-to wardrobe?
My favorite season is fall/winter. My go-to outfits consist of lots of layering pieces. I love Alembika. Most always I’ll have on a pair of Punto pants or my favorite pair, a drop crotch multi textured pant from an earlier collection of Alembika, with a touch of chartreuse (my favorite color), a tank or two and a crop pullover. I love coats, too. We carry lots of artistic jewelry at Possibilities, that’s a must for me as well. I’m always carrying a cross body bag.
What’s your favorite Alembika style and what makes you love the brand?
One of my favorites is my off white billowy top with big black polka dots and my drop crotch tweed black, white and chartreuse pants I mentioned previously.
I love Alembika …the artsiness and how it fits so many bodies and personalities. We love putting things together in unexpected ways at Possibilities so we love mixing the groups. I especially like knits and the vests, coats and jackets as adornments to other lines. The pants are great too. It’s definitely for our free spirited women.
