We spoke to the owner, Michele, about her career, favorite Alembika styles and more!
Did you always want to be a retailer?
After a successful career as a CPA in the Los Angeles entertainment industry, I bought a retail boutique in my neighborhood. Having shopped there for years (the store was closing) I needed a place to shop!!!
What would you do in your next life?
I spend most of my time off studying painting, mainly watercolors. So a career as a painter would be ideal, I love it.
What are your top 5 “must pack” travel items?
Since I travel to Hawaii often, warm weather clothing is a must. I always have a few Lyng Designs, lightweight rayon Batiks; my latest swimsuit; a statement caftan that goes anywhere; a black and white mixed pattern Alembika dress for dinner time; a chic black and white bag to carry my painting supplies to class.
What’s your favorite season and go-to wardrobe?
Los Angeles is basically one season-Fabulous. I concentrate on lightweight, edgy black and white separates, however I’m starting to appreciate dresses more often.
What is your favorite Alembika style and what makes you love the brand?
I love Alembika’s continuity with my favorite color combination-black/white. In addition to that, my customers and I love the artisan mix of high quality fabrics, prints, patterns and colors. And of course, style, sizing and fit to accommodate plus size women!!!
