I wish we could change our approach with the elderly during the pandemic. Too many have died alone over the past seven months and we must make sure it doesn’t continue. We should treat our elderly as our own young grandchildren—neither can be left alone and an aide cannot always provide much-needed emotional support.

I have decided to take this small risk—to visit! While Covid is a very good, very real reason to be careful, it’s not enough of an excuse to not visit, one on one, keeping a mindful, healthy distance.

Volunteering with hospice, I see the difference it makes. The human interaction is irreplaceable. Phone calls are not enough. They need our company. To me, not visiting is not okay, Covid or not. How do we make it work?

Have a good week!
