This past weekend, I participated in a Silent Buddhist Retreat.
Sitting meditation is hard, almost unbearable but being quiet for 3 days was worth it.
Intense practice in a retreat setting gives us a chance to look at ourselves deeply and silence brings a spaciousness; allowing room to connect with our inner selves.
But the one theme that keeps coming up for me in retreats, is the power of community. We become one unit as the hours pass, practicing together silently, walking side by side in a walking meditation, taking care of our surroundings and our own bodies, eating together silently and moving together made me feel supported and held.

The woman who sat next to me in the Zendo had a very quiet presence and that helped me calm down when my mind and body were restless and I felt I couldn’t do it. Being together with a similar mindset of people is powerful.
What’s your practice? How do you find your quiet?
Happy Tuesday.
