IN JOY THE LITTLE THINGS

“Don’t overlook life’s small joys while searching for the big ones.”

H. Jackson Brown Jr., Author of Life’s Little Instruction Book

Your life is one beautiful journey and there are so many big and small things to in-joy. When you enjoy something it’s usually something outside of you. But to in-joy is delighting in all that is within you. One way to discover your in-joy is to use your 5 (or 6) senses to discover the small joys that make up your day.

What sights inspire you? Your favorite color, your child’s smile, a festive parade, a beautiful sky, even a gorgeous stock of garden tomatoes can be a sight for sore eyes. Keep your eyes open and notice what lights you up.

What sounds make you smile? Ocean waves, your spoon swirling your tea, that song you danced to at your last birthday party or a loved one calling your name can all soothe you and fill you with love. Listen for what comforts you.

What smells transport you? Your favorite flower, a holiday meal, fresh snow or even your beloved pet’s fur can all transport you and lift your spirits.

What feels so right that you are immediately at ease? Fresh sheets on your bed, your favorite dress, the summer sun on your shoulders or the hug of a good friend can all generate a spark of joy within you.

What memories, intuitive hits or unexplained happenings remind you of the miraculous life you are living? Finding a single penny, spotting a butterfly when you think of someone who has passed, running into a friend you haven’t seen in years and were just thinking of. These are just some examples of the little things that remind you that you are just a cute little star in a universe of possibilities.
