What do you do when you don’t know what to do?
I talk to my husband or a friend, I journal, and I meditate.

What would you do if you had the whole day for yourself?
I’m a maker, so I’d spend much of the day sewing wearable art, cooking, or writing. And then we’d go kayaking or snowshoeing, depending on the weather.

What is the best thing about being a woman?
The range of choices: parenthood, career, etc. It’s also probably the worst thing, since we’ve been brainwashed to think we can have it all, all the time, when we really need to choose priorities for every stage of life.

What is the one piece of clothing you cannot live without?
Punto pants — you can dress them up or down and they always look cool and they’re so comfortable!

What did you do or do for work?

I’m an educator and writer: I taught public school for 30 years, I taught teachers, I worked with schools around the state of Illinois, I wrote the professional development materials for a company, and I published two textbooks and a teaching memoir. Now that I am really retired, I’m a CASA/GAL [Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem] for kids in foster care. I’m currently working on my second and third cases.
