Gennifer Birnbach Sustainability in fashion is complicated. We don’t claim to have all the answers, and we don’t call Alembika a fully sustainable brand. But we believe that being thoughtful about how we make and send our clothing matters.
Here are three choices that are important to us.
1. Producing in Limited Quantities
You may have noticed that certain Alembika styles are available in limited quantities—and that some sizes can sell out quickly.
This is intentional.
We source premium fabrics in small batches and produce limited quantities of each style. Rather than mass-producing clothing, we focus on creating well-made pieces in quantities that make sense for our collections. For us, quality comes first.
2. Knowing the People Behind Our Clothes
We work closely with smaller factories and know the owners and people who make our clothing. That connection matters.
We believe a more thoughtful approach to fashion includes knowing where our clothing comes from and how it is made. We value fair wages, respectful treatment and strong relationships throughout our supply chain.
It is not just about the finished garment. It is about the people and the process behind it.
3. Choosing Better Packaging
Our sustainability efforts don’t stop when a garment is finished.
When your Alembika order arrives, it comes in a POLLAST!C mailer from Better Packaging Co. These mailers are made using recovered ocean-bound plastic, giving plastic waste another use rather than allowing it to reach our oceans.
And we can measure the difference.
As of June 30, 2026, Alembika has helped divert 645.46 kg (1,423 lbs) of plastic pollution from reaching the oceans—the equivalent of 80,683 single-use plastic bags. We’ve also reduced our carbon footprint by 930 kg (2,050 lbs) of CO₂ compared with packaging made from virgin plastic.
We know one packaging choice doesn’t solve the larger challenges of fashion. But it is a real, measurable step—and one we can take today.
For Alembika, that’s what sustainability looks like right now: paying attention, making thoughtful choices and continuing to look for ways to do better.
