I turned 60 this month, I am a university president and leadership scholar, and I own more than a dozen pairs of Alembika pants. Those three things may seem unrelated, but for me they are part of the same story—becoming increasingly confident about how I lead, live, and express myself.

My Alembika story began at Betsy Jenney, a wonderful Boston boutique where I purchased my very first pair of Alembika pants. More than a dozen pairs later, Alembika has become a signature part of my wardrobe. I love the creativity, individuality, comfort, and confidence the clothing represents, as well as the freedom to make each piece my own.

Professionally, I serve as President of Simmons University and am a leadership scholar and co-author of Arrive and Thrive and The Prepared Leader. Much of my work focuses on how women lead, thrive, navigate change, and continue to reinvent themselves throughout their lives.

Turning 60 has given me another opportunity to think about reinvention. I am entering this decade with a sense of possibility and an even greater appreciation for expressing who I am. My personal style has evolved in much the same way as my leadership.

To celebrate this milestone, I created a 60th birthday boutique tour focused on visiting independent and women-owned boutiques and celebrating the designers and entrepreneurs who help women discover and express their individual style.

Betsy Jenney is one of the boutiques featured on my tour, bringing my Alembika journey full circle.

My Alembika pieces have traveled with me through university leadership, speaking engagements, dinners, travel, and everyday life. I especially enjoy styling my Alembika pants with bold jewelry, interesting layers, and unexpected combinations that reflect my artsy, bohemian-professional aesthetic.

When I discovered the #AlembikaWomen series, I connected with its celebration of women who have interesting stories, distinctive personal style, and lives lived with purpose. It is especially meaningful to celebrate 60 by sharing a story that began with that first pair of Alembika pants at Betsy Jenney and has grown into much more than a love of fashion.
