When I travel to see my family or when family comes to visit me, I aim to make as few plans as possible and to give myself over completely to hanging out and doing “nothing” together so we have time to bond with each other. It’s about creating moments where everyone can just be themselves without the pressure of a schedule.
Spending the day playing, chatting and eating together, taking a walk and just sitting together is where we really find time to ask questions and find intimacy. When we’re not trying to fill the space with plans, we give ourselves the opportunity to really see and hear each other.
We have a tendency to keep moving and disturb the connection. We get “bored” fast yet it is in the quiet, unscripted moments that we truly connect.
It feels good and enriching when I remember to embrace and practice that connection.
Do you feel connected? How do you find and practice that time of relaxation and being present with loved ones?
